Uncle play by anton chekhov7/6/2023 ![]() ![]() We see them, in the beginning of the play, to chatter vividly and with a nonchalant air, for life, for themselves, their relationships and their tastes. The nine heroes in 'Uncle Vanya', blocked in the summer languor of a country house, are at the absolute disposal of the writer. As in his others plays, Chekhov chooses here a group of people and immobilizes them. The principal characters, uncle Vanya and his niece Sonia, fade in a repeated miserable routine in the country, having as the only purpose of their life the financial support of their relative person living in the capital, who is a pretentious university teacher. 'Uncle Vanya' the masterpiece of Anton Chekhov, is a complicated tragicomedy of unfulfilled loves, devotion to the land and provincial boredom, where the excellently sketched up characters create themselves the interior action. ![]() Opening: Theatre of the Society for Macedonian Studies - Central Stage, ![]()

Medallion by dawn watkins7/5/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Having read several fanciful novels in my time, I must admit that this genre is not my favorite. Shield is the prequel to another Watkins novel, Medallion, which follows the story of Trave, a distant offspring of Innera’s line. To counteract the dark entertainments that generally attract today’s tweens, Dawn Watkins peppers her book with wholesome quips from Innera’s respected herbalist grandmother: “Good unguarded is good lost” (Kindle Loc.93) and “Evil will thrive only when the good allow it” (Kindle Loc.772) being some examples. Shield is a healthy taste of fanciful fiction for youth in an age too filled with vampires and black magic, too saturated with dystopian dreams. Innera of Dider, a fanciful nation under the oppression of attackers, must trek the mountains and valleys of her world to return a special shield to a king who may no longer be alive. ![]() Set in a fanciful time when generals trained lizards for war, when princesses hid libraries from invaders, and when everyone from grandmothers to youth wielded swords for their very survival, Shield shares the story of a young girl named Innera who is caught in the midst of a war of nations. ![]()

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott7/5/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Elbert argues that within Little Women can be found the first vision of the " All-American girl" and that her various aspects are embodied in the differing March sisters. ![]() The novel has been said to address three major themes: "domesticity, work, and true love, all of them interdependent and each necessary to the achievement of its heroine's individual identity." : 200 According to Sarah Elbert, Alcott created a new form of literature, one that took elements from romantic children's fiction and combined it with others from sentimental novels, resulting in a totally new genre. Alcott subsequently wrote two sequels to her popular work, both also featuring the March sisters: Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). The two volumes were issued in 1880 as a single novel titled Little Women. Alcott quickly completed a second volume (titled Good Wives in the United Kingdom, though the name originated with the publisher and not Alcott). Little Women was an immediate commercial and critical success, with readers eager for more about the characters. Loosely based on the lives of the author and her three sisters, : 202 it is classified as an autobiographical or semi-autobiographical novel. The story follows the lives of the four March sisters-Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy-and details their passage from childhood to womanhood. Little Women is a coming-of-age novel written by American novelist Louisa May Alcott, originally published in two volumes in 18 at the request of her publisher. ![]()
